Industry-academia collaboration project No. 5
The collaboration project with Nippon Engineering College began in 2020, and this year will be the fifth. Nippon Engineering College is a comprehensive technical college with 99 specialized fields in 34 departments across 6 colleges, including Nippon Engineering College in Ota Ward and Nippon Engineering College Hachioji in Hachioji.
The two accommodation plans being sold this time were selected from plan proposals by 15 teams, with a total of 58 participants, including 23 first- and second-year students from the Information Business Department's Hotel and Tourism Course and 35 first-year students from the Secretary/Administrative/e-Business Course.
We set the challenge of "what can only a hotel in Kamata, Ota Ward do?" and evaluated the validity of the concept and whether the content was unique and not available at other hotels. We also took into account the presentation skills of the applicants and selected the overall best idea.
The project will be launched in earnest in May 2024 with a lecture by hotel staff on "The process of planning and commercializing hotel accommodation plans." This year, we asked them to create an accommodation plan that does not limit the target generation, but incorporates original ideas unique to Kamata that will allow people to rediscover the charm of Kamata, Ota Ward.
In September, 15 teams made presentations in front of the hotel staff, and two plans were selected: "Humanity Healing Plan - Eliminating Bath Cancellations" by first-year students in the Hotel and Tourism Course, and "Plum Hospitality" by first-year students in the Secretary/Administrative/e-Business Course. The students split into two teams and shared the work, and had multiple opportunities to meet, including online, to brush up on the content. As part of their classes, the students carried out a wide range of tasks, including creating posters, announcements, and other displays, promoting the project on social media, selecting special items, and negotiating with stores.
This project is part of the "Co-Creation Hotel" strategy, a regional co-creation strategy put forward by Hotel Management Japan Co., Ltd. Hotel Oriental Express Tokyo Kamata aims to be a hotel that discovers, creates, and develops the charm of the local area together with the local community in order to continue to provide guests with a unique stay experience.

Hotel and Tourism Course 1st Year Students "Human Healing Project" ~I want to eliminate the bath cancellation area~"
It was quite a challenge to think of what kind of plan would be attractive enough to be chosen by customers within the budget, but we discussed Kamata and the hotel with our team members and were able to create a plan. We needed to dig deeper into how to promote Kamata's attractions and how to increase sales, so we would like to use this experience next time. In addition to relaxing in the hot springs, please enjoy the town of Kamata, which is famous for its local delicacies such as fried dumplings!
Secretary/Administrative /eBusiness Course 1st Year Students "Plum Hospitality"
Through this project, I was able to discover the hidden charms of the area and spend a fulfilling time. It was hard to put together a plan that would meet the needs of the users while also clearing budgets and other constraints, but I was inspired by the perspectives and opinions of the other members and it was a good opportunity to broaden my own horizons. Please take your time to enjoy the atmosphere of Kamata and feel relaxed.
■ Comments from the instructor at Nippon Engineering College
Both "plum blossoms" and "hot spring facilities" are unfamiliar to the students, so it seemed like a difficult theme, but they decided to "make something good since we were chosen," and they researched it themselves, shared their opinions, and created it. When creating the map, they were sometimes turned down by stores, but they persevered and kept trying, and I believe that this series of experiences will definitely be useful when they enter the workforce. I hope that both people who are visiting Kamata for the first time and those who have been there before will use both plans to experience the charms of the town and make new discoveries.
Kaisei-yu's black hot spring is one of the thickest natural hot springs in the Kamata area.
Kaisei-yu, which opened in 1929, allows you to enjoy the baths while watching the fish in the aquarium.

Students will come up with ideas, complete them, and take advantage of the accommodation plan to enjoy walking around Kamata!
