Where is Naruto City? 

Naruto City in Tokushima Prefecture serves as the eastern gateway to Shikoku, connecting it to the Kansai region and being approximately three hours away from Kansai International Airport.
Naruto City has a diverse range of nature, with both the sea and the mountains, and there are plenty of tourist attractions and activities to experience, such as the Naruto Whirlpools, one of the world's three largest tides, as well as the Awa Odori dance and the pilgrimage route. Some tourist attractions are a little far away, so in those cases we recommend renting a car to get around!

Roadside Station "Daikyu no Sato" Product Center

During World War I, the Bando POW camp was built in Hinoki, Taima-cho, Naruto City, Tokushima Prefecture, and on June 1, 1918, German prisoners of war performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in its entirety for the first time in Asia and Japan, hence the name "Daikyu no Sato." Daikyu no Sato is a roadside station that combines a local product center, the Naruto City German House, and the Kagawa Toyohiko Memorial Museum. The souvenir shop has a wide selection of local specialties and Tokushima souvenirs. There is also a gelato and snack corner that uses local specialties. The building that houses the shop was relocated from part of the barracks (barracks) of the Bando POW camp, and is registered as a tangible cultural property of the country.

There is a panoramic signboard that displays the scenery that can be seen from the observation deck and the names of places there. ＜Kagamishima＞ It has been discovered that the uninhabited island of Kagamishima in Uchinoumi , Naruto City, is heart-shaped when viewed from above. The viewing point is the Naruto Skyline Shihomi Observatory. However, although you can see Kagamishima clearly, unfortunately you cannot see the heart shape from the observation deck. We currently have an information signboard installed explaining the view from the Shihomi Observatory, and on that sign is a QR code that allows you to watch a video of Kagamishima taken by a drone. There are various theories about the heart-shaped island, but in ancient times, when the country was still small, Emperor Jimmu, who looked out over the country from the top of a mountain, wrote that the country was "like Akitsuno toname no hitoshi (like dragonflies mating)." Because the topography looks like dragonflies mating (heart-shaped), and because Naruto is considered an important land in the Manyoshu, it is also said that "there must be a heart-shaped topography somewhere in Naruto." We hope that the heart-shaped island of Kagamishima will become a soothing scenic spot. Kagamishima is also the island where the Ryugu Festival (a Shinto ritual to pray for safety at sea and for a good catch) is held once a year, and since it is revered and cherished as a sacred place, landing on the island is prohibited. In addition, the area around Kagamishima is a thriving fishing area with many fish farming and fishing rafts and frequent boat traffic. For safety reasons, please refrain from navigating the area in pleasure boats or canoes.

Kitanada Sea Station was designated as the first sea station in Tokushima Prefecture. It is a facility that can be accessed from either land by car or sea by pleasure boat. With safety as its motto, it handles fresh fish landed off the coast of Kitanada. It also stocks a wide range of processed products such as dried fish, as well as souvenirs unique to Tokushima. At the adjacent Kitanada Fisheries Association Direct Delivery Freshly Delivered Restaurant, the set meals featuring freshly caught seafood are popular. You can enjoy the bounty of Tokushima, which is rich in nature, to your heart's content.

This park is adjacent to the Naruto Strait, which is one of the three largest tidal currents in the world and is famous for its whirlpools, and the Onaruto Bridge. It is designated as part of the Setonaikai National Park and offers a spectacular view. On the Onaruto Bridge Promenade, "Uzu no Michi," you can peer into the whirlpools through a glass floor 45 meters above the sea.
