A New teamLab Installation Near Tokyo: Yoro Valley
teamLab will present an evening outdoor exhibition, teamLab Yoro Valley, in the hot‑spring district of Yoro Valley, Chiba.
The Yoro Valley is a renowned autumn foliage location easily accessed from Tokyo via Chiba Station. The gorge offers breathtaking scenery all year long.
The project applies teamLab’s Digitized Nature approach to a gorge carved by the Yoro River, installing light and sound works that react to visitors and the site’s surfaces.
Below, we introduce some of the highlights of the installation.
Artistic Concept

Under Digitized Nature, teamLab preserves natural features and integrates them into the work so the landscape itself participates.
Light, sound and projection map directly onto rock, water, and trees, producing site‑specific pieces that change with visitors.
Instead of placing standalone objects, the show treats rock faces, layered strata, and old‑growth trees as active collaborators; installations shift with human movement and changing light. The exhibition highlights the valley’s geology while supporting sustainable tourism in the hot‑spring area.
Geology and Context

Visitors can see Chibanian strata, which are geological evidence of a magnetic reversal, and the Kurotaki unconformity in the valley.
The unconformity marks a pronounced geological break, an eroded surface where older Miura (Awa) beds are overlain by younger Kazusa deposits, giving the installations a striking deep‑time setting.
Venue
The walking route centers on the Nakase promenade in Yoro Valley (Katsuto area, Otaki‑machi, Isumi district). Expect outdoor, uneven trails, so wear sturdy shoes and allow extra time to move between points.
Visitor notes: Check the official event page for sunset‑adjusted start times, weather updates, and access advisories. Accessibility discounts are available; the outdoor route may challenge some visitors.
Access from Tokyo to Yoro Valley
The easiest way to access Yoro Valley from Tokyo is by taking a train on the JR Sobu Line heading to Chiba Station, from Tokyo Station or Kinshicho.
Once at Chiba Station, transfer to the JR Uchibo Line heading to Kimitsu and get off at Goi Station.
Here, transfer to the local Kominato Railway Line, which takes you to Yorokeikoku Station in about one hour and 6 minutes. Yorokeikoku Station is right near the Yoro Valley.
The entire trip takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes in total and costs around 2,320 yen.
