The Sea of Kyoto area is located in the northern part of Kyoto Prefecture, facing the Sea of Japan. This area is blessed with fresh seafood, and you can enjoy a variety of seafood throughout the seasons. This time, we will introduce only a few restaurants that serve delicious seafood dishes.
848, Nakano, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, 629-2232
The restaurant's teahouse-style exterior is a landmark along the back approach to Motoise Kono Shrine. The interior, surrounded by earthen walls and decorated with retro accessories, has a nostalgic atmosphere. With a view of the scenic Amanohashidate behind the window, you can enjoy special, original rice bowls made with the bounty of Miyazu Bay. The Tango Otakara Donburi, featuring Miyazu-grown akamoku seaweed, known as a superfood, is a seafood bowl inspired by the meals provided to fishermen, with a base of raw egg on rice. The recommended way to eat it is to savor one piece of fresh sashimi, then mix the rest together and enjoy it in a hearty meal. In the winter, yellowtail shabu-shabu is popular.
48, Ogaki, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, 629-2242
This restaurant boasts fresh fish delivered daily from Taiza, a fishing town representative of the Tango Peninsula, and Ine, with its calm inland sea and abundant fishing grounds. The visually striking "Luxurious Squid Bowl" is a popular choice. The large serving, featuring a whopping one and a half squid, has garnered acclaim. Enjoy freshly caught seafood year-round, with white squid from spring to autumn and bigfin reef squid from autumn to spring. The "Amanohashidate-raised clams" used in the "Clam Bowl" are grown in Amanohashidate's inland sea, allowing them to slowly accumulate flavor. Because they are raised in hanging cages, they never come into contact with sand. Other dishes include rock oysters in the summer and yellowtail shabu-shabu hotpot in the winter, offering hidden delicacies from Tango throughout the year. The restaurant has been in business at Cable Station for over 85 years. This restaurant exudes the majestic presence of a long-established establishment that has supported tourism in Amanohashidate.
Taikyourou Restaurant "Akura"
471, Monju, Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, 626-0001
Akura is a restaurant located inside Taikyourou, the inn closest to Amanohashidate. While gazing at the quietly flowing Amanohashidate Canal and rows of pine trees, you can relax in a nostalgic, Japanese-style space and enjoy a variety of dishes prepared by the inn's chefs.
We recommend the lunch menu, which focuses on local seafood and mountain produce, including a seafood bowl generously piled high with seasonal ingredients. The benefits of the restaurant's proximity to the sea can be felt throughout the year, with cockles, rock oysters, and crabs that are two to three times larger than usual and exceptionally thick and sweet, allowing you to enjoy a variety of flavors each time you visit. After enjoying Amanohashidate, we recommend savoring the rich seafood produced by the traditional flavors of this long-established inn, which has been in business since the early Meiji period, to satisfy both body and soul.
Ocean View Restaurant TANGOTANGO
1562 ,Hisazo , Tangocho , Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, 627-0242

Locally Produced Restaurant Hisami
Tangocho Taijin 1830, Kyotango City, Kyoto Prefecture, 627-0201
As you drive along the straight coast, a secluded house on a hill comes into view. From the windows of the charming cafe-like interior, the beautiful Tango Sea unfolds. Customers come to this restaurant primarily for its seafood dishes, made with the catch of the day, mainly from Taiza Port. Guests can enjoy local delicacies to their heart's content, from fresh seafood bowls with toppings, the restaurant's specialty, lightly pickled homemade heshiko, and seasonal dishes. While a local produce restaurant, the menu also includes dishes from its predecessor, a Western restaurant, as well as a full snow crab course. Apparently, this hospitality menu was created in response to customer requests. And don't miss the homemade heshiko, which can have a backlog of several months for mail order. If you're looking for a souvenir, head to the sister restaurant, Heshiko Kobo HISAMI, which also has a stylish cafe on-site.
Hirata 593-1, Ine Town, Yosa District, Kyoto Prefecture, 626-0424
Located right next to Ine Port, this sushi restaurant prides itself on the freshness of its fish. Most of the seafood ingredients are delivered that morning via Ine Fishing Port, so one of the joys is seeing the fish change depending on the sea conditions and the season.
Although the seafood is all from Ine, customers will be delighted with the wide variety of fish on offer, from grunt, flathead sea bream, bonito, horse mackerel, red sea bream, and amberjack to Ine's signature ingredients, rock oysters and yellowtail.
The restaurant is located inside Funayabiyori, which opened in 2017, and the view of Ine Bay from the restaurant, which is modeled after a boathouse, is one of the attractions. Enjoy the beautiful view and the bounty of Ine to your heart's content.
491, Ine Town, Yosa District, Kyoto Prefecture, 626-0423
Ine Town is one of Japan's three largest yellowtail fishing grounds, alongside Himi City in Toyama Prefecture and the Goto Islands in Nagasaki Prefecture. Yellowtail, a fish that grows to over 10kg, is a local food that is deeply rooted in the region, treated as a lucky charm in the Tango region and enjoyed as a family gathering with yellowtail shabu-shabu. Funaya Shokudo, a restaurant based on a long-established local inn, offers a casual dining experience, featuring not only yellowtail caught in Ine, but also local fish and regional cuisine. Located on the second floor of the Ine Town Tourism Association, with views of Ine Bay and the boathouses, you can enjoy seasonal local fish dishes. Since its opening in April 2018, it has been a popular spot for domestic and international tourists looking to fully enjoy Ine Town cuisine in a charming setting.

"The greatest joy of a chef is being able to use the best fish of the day," he says. His meticulous work and visually stunning fish dishes have captivated not only local customers but also fans from Japan and abroad. The Uogen Higashi-Maizuru branch opened in the fall of 2019.
