MONSTERS BY MONSTERS: NOW AND THEN Exhibition Painting and Sculpture Zone

POP MART JAPAN brings the Tokyo edition of the 10th anniversary exhibition MONSTERS BY MONSTERS: NOW AND THEN to Azabudai Hills Gallery from June 11 to July 5, 2026.

The show is part of a global tour that began in Shanghai and has already traveled to Taipei, Hong Kong, and Paris.

At the center of the exhibition is LABUBU, Kasing Lung’s signature character, whose roots can be found in the picture book trilogy THE MONSTERS TRILOGY: The Story of Puca, Pato and the Girl, and Miró’s Requiem.

Kasing Lung first became interested in picture books after moving to the Netherlands as a child, and that early experience led him to explore European fairy tales and folklore.

Through those influences, he created the whimsical cast of THE MONSTERS, turning LABUBU and its companions into cultural icons with fans around the world.

A New Immersive Area

One of the exhibition’s highlights is the Immersive Video Theater, a newly unveiled space that brings the first chapter of The Story of Puca to life with five-sided projection and surround sound.

The exhibition is organized into eight themed areas, including painting and sculpture, art toys, picture books, mirrors, and sketches. Visitors can trace the evolution of THE MONSTERS over the past decade while moving through a fantasy-like forest setting.
