Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway Opens Good-Luck Spots July 16
Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway in Kawaguchiko opens the Goriyaku Plaza on July 16, 2026. Enjoy Mt. Fuji views, rabbit shrine luck, and fortune fun.
New Attractions at the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway

The Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway, which is located on Mount Tenjo, facing Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchiko, will open two new summit-area attractions on July 16, 2026: the Goriyaku Plaza and Scenic Viewing Stairs.

The new area sits at an elevation of about 1,090 meters and is designed as a good-fortune zone where visitors can enjoy Mt. Fuji scenery and hands-on luck-themed experiences.

The ropeway’s summit area already offers wide views of Mt. Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi, and the new additions expand the experience beyond sightseeing alone.
Even on cloudy days, visitors can still enjoy rabbit-themed shrine elements, fortune rituals, and souvenir-friendly activities.
Goriyaku Plaza Brings Fortune-Themed Fun to the Summit

At the heart of the new area is Goriyaku Plaza, where visitors will find a range of playful good-luck attractions inspired by the world of Kachi-Kachi-yama (Fire-Crackle Mountain) - a dark folktale about a vengeful rabbit and a mischievous tanuki (Japanese raccoon dog), whose setting is believed to be Mt. Tenjo.

Highlights include:
- Usagi Shrine, a rabbit shrine for prayers of safety and strong walking;
- Kawarake-nage, an activity where visitors throw unglazed clay discs for purification;
- Vending machines for ema (wooden wish plaques) and omamori (amulets);
- Kachi-Kachi Tairyo Mikuji, a fishing-style fortune game.
A stamp rally experience called Mt. Fuji Goriyaku Meguri will also be available, with four stamp points spread around the facility.
The completed sheet can be mailed as a postcard, turning the activity into a souvenir as well as a memory.
Scenic Viewing Stairs Offer a Dramatic Approach to the New Plaza

Leading to Goriyaku Plaza is the new Scenic Viewing Stairs, a 35-step path that spans a 7-meter elevation change. The stairway is marked by red torii gates and lanterns, and also serves as the approach to Usagi Shrine.
On the way down, visitors can look out toward a big view of Mt. Fuji beyond the torii, with cherry blossoms in spring and autumn foliage in fall adding seasonal color.
Summer Highlights at the Mount Fuji Panoramic Ropeway

The ropeway itself runs from the base area to Mount Tenjo, reaching the summit in about 2.5 minutes.
At the summit, visitors can also enjoy the Kachi-Kachi-yama Scenic Swing, the Scenic Panorama Corridor, Takeda Shingen’s Sengoku Plaza Scenic Yagura, and Tanuki Chaya, a Japanese-style tea house serving snacks and souvenirs.
Summer operating hours begin on July 16, 2026, with schedules varying by date. Round-trip adult fare is 1,000 yen, and child fare is 500 yen.
