What to See
Hyotan-Ike (Gourd Pond)

A gourd-shaped pond believed to have remained here since the days of the garden of Matsudaira Yorishige. Nearby the pond is an old tree called the "Monogatari no Matsu" (Tale-bearing Pine), said to have been here since the Edo Period.

An area with a pond and wetlands. The sight of vibrant green plants reflecting in water is incredibly calming.

The Institute for Nature Study regularly holds learning events for visitors to build their nature knowledge.
Sunday Observation Meeting
You can stroll around the park with a researcher and learn about the nature (Japanese only).

Surrounding Attractions
Next to the Institute is the Tokyo Metropolitan Teien Art Museum. The museum building itself was originally a mansion of the Asaka-no-miya, one of the Japanese Imperial families. The interior is decorated with the art deco trendy for that time. Exhibitions are held here, and works from both Japan and overseas are displayed.

About 15 minutes on foot from the Institute is Yebisu Garden Place. On the grounds you will find the Museum of Yebisu Beer where you can learn about Yebisu, the Japanese beer brand that is over 100 years old.
Located conveniently in the center of the city, the Institute for Nature Study, National Museum of Nature and Science is a great place to immerse in nature. If you're ever in Meguro, Shirokane, or Ebisu, we highly recommend stopping by.
