Marugame Seimen is a Japanese restaurant chain that serves fresh udon noodles. We'll introduce you to our recommended menu items and explain how to order.
Marugame Seimen pays careful attention to its unique udon-making process, performed entirely inside the restaurant. The interior of the shop seems as though an udon factory was recreated inside.
The dough is stretched via this machine, about four or five times. To enhance the flavor, the dough used for the noodles is left to rest overnight.
The noodles are cut,
then cooked in boiling water.
Once the noodles are cooked through, they are soon served to customers. Freshly cooked udon noodles are chewy and firm, and the flavor of flour is rich and exquisite!
Let’s try placing an order!
When you enter, check the menu first, as items are listed in English, Chinese and Korean in addition to Japanese. Choose the kind of udon, the portion size (regular or large) and whether you want cold or hot udon.
The cooks behind the counter will call on you. Get your tray ready and explain your order to them.
Receive your bowl.
Get your bowl and slide your tray along to the tempura and rice ball corner. Take the tempura and rice balls you want and put them on a plate. Prices vary by type, but you can confirm them on the plate in front of the food.
After assembling your meal, pay up at the register.
Pick up condiments, tea and water, then head to your seat. There are chopsticks, shichimi pepper, and dashi soy sauce at each seat.
Here we’ll introduce you to some items we recommend from Marugame Seimen.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Marugame Seimen is all about kama-age udon. The noodles are not rinsed before being served, so they have a characteristic firm chewiness.
Dip them in the tsuyu in the black bowl before eating. A regular-size bowl is 290 yen, which is very reasonable. They are also delicious eaten with tempura or other toppings.
Sprinkle on dashi soy sauce, squeeze a sudachi citrus slice over the noodles and enjoy. The rinsed noodles are springy, and the citrus-y sourness gives them a refreshing taste. They are perfect for a light meal on a hot day.
You can choose hot or cold noodles. A regular-sized bowl is 350 yen (with tax).
This udon is topped with viscous grated yam and rich egg. A regular-sized bowl is 410 yen (with tax). You can also enjoy the rich flavor of the broth.
You can also add tempura crumbs and green onions to any item for free, which boosts the flavor.
After you finish your udon, bring your tray to the return counter. All you have to do is leave it there.
Marugame Seimen has branches all over the country, where you can enjoy freshly made noodles. Udon is both reasonably priced and good for digestion.
There are also branches that serve limited-time items, so when you come to Japan, how about dropping by Marugame Seimen to enjoy their fresh and carefully prepared udon?
