Events & Festivals (November)
This page introduces Miyagi's main events and festivals. Event dates and details will be updated as new information becomes available.
ZUIHODENFALL LIGHT UP
Zuihoden is located near the center of Sendai city and is home to the mausoleum of Date Masamune, a famous samurai. This is a must-visit spot when you visit Sendai.
On January nights, the lush grounds are illuminated with autumn leaves. The contrast between the brightly colored autumn leaves and the black lacquered mausoleum structure becomes even more pronounced at night. This year's light-up event will be held for 6 days.
Osaki Balloon Festival
At the Osaki Balloon Festival, approximately 30 hot air balloons take off each year, offering spectacular views. The first 200 people will receive a hot air balloon ticket (one ticket per person), so we recommend arriving early (numbered tickets will be distributed from 6 a.m.)! There will also be a paragliding competition, demonstrations of small airplanes, and a craft corner themed around hot air balloons.
Located only 90 minutes away from Tokyo, Miyagi Prefecture offers unique and diverse experiences. Sendai, the cosmopolitan capital of Miyagi, is populated with lush greenery and yokocho alleys, while to the west is the iconic crater lake of Mount Zao, and to the east lies Matsushima, known as one of the Three Most Scenic Places of Japan. Miyagi also provides direct access to all the other prefectures of the Tohoku region, a vast unexplored area full of nature and rich culinary traditions, completely different from typical tourist destinations of Japan.
