How To Travel From Narita International Airport to Tokyo

The main station in Tokyo's bustling Shinjuku area is JR Shinjuku Station. Many train lines go through this station, making it one of the most complicated to navigate in all of Japan.

As there are several exits on different levels from this station, it is a good idea to find out in advance which exit is the closest to your destination.

The Narita Express Takes You Directly to Shinjuku

Where to get on: Narita Airport Terminal 2-3 Station / Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station
Where to get off: Shinjuku Station
Travel time: about 90 minutes
Fare: 3,250 yen (standard class cars), 5,520 yen (green/first class cars)

Other features: You can travel to Shinjuku without any transfers. Please buy tickets in advance as the Narita Express has a reserved seating system.

Other Train Services to Shinjuku

Lines: Keisei Narita Sky Access Line or Keisei Skyliner to Nippori Station, then change to the JR Yamanote Line (towards Ikebukuro and Shinjuku)
Where to get on: Narita Airport Terminal 2-3 Station / Narita Airport Terminal 1 Station
Where to change trains: at Nippori Station from either Keisei Narita Sky Access Line or Keisei Skyliner (change to the JR Yamanote line)
Fare: 2,570 yen (Keisei Skyliner)

Other features: It takes about 70 minutes to get to Shinjuku Station as you need to change trains at Nippori Station. Taking the Narita Sky Access Express line costs 1,440 yen and takes about 90 minutes, and is more complicated overall as it stops at more stations and may require you to change trains several times.

Where to get on: Narita Airport Terminal 1 South Wing, Terminal 1 North Wing, Terminal 2 and Terminal 3
Where to get off: Shinjuku Station West Exit
Travel time: About 75 - 115 minutes
