Morooka-Kumano Shrine in Yokohama is famous for their service of giving lucky charms to those who draw bad fortune slips. Drawing a bad fortune slip is disappointing at usual shrines, but it is rather lucky here!
Lucky Charms Available at Morooka-Kumano Shrine
Morooka-Kumano Shrine has a wide variety of lucky charms. In the upper left picture, the left and middle charms are for general luck, and the right one is for getting well or becoming healthy. Those in the upper right picture are for traffic safety, and in the lower left picture are Hello Kitty general lucky charms. In the lower right picture, from the left are boxed lucky charms for the recovery of good health, easy childbirth, and passing exams.
Lucky charms for general luck, easy childbirth, and victory are especially popular. The Hello Kitty lucky charms and boxed lucky charms are great souvenirs.
It is said that a lucky charm works for a year, so we recommend you to return your lucky charms to the shrine or burn your lucky charms after blessing them with salt after a year is up.
Soccer Fans Love This Shrine Too
The symbol of Morooka-Kumano Shrine, found on its shrine crest, is the yatagarasu, a sacred three-legged crow said to guide prayers and hopeful wishes to the heavens. This shrine is known as a soccer shrine because the logo of the Japanese national soccer team is also a yatagarasu.
Many people who practice soccer visit the shrine to pray for their team's victory and for their players' health, and four kinds of soccer lucky charms are popular souvenirs with these soccer fans.
Access to Morooka-Kumano Shrine
Morooka-Kumano Shrine is located in a residential area, about eight minutes from Okurayama Station on the Tokyu Toyoko line.
After passing though the shopping street, please turn left at the main street, walk straight until you come to the 'Kumano Jinja Iriguchi' crossing. Please turn right at the crossing and go down the street and you will see a torii gate and a pond, which means you have arrived at the shrine. Go up the stairs and pray.

Despite the location in a residential area, thanks to their unique service and the numerous recommendations of famous fortune tellers, this shrine is visited by people from all across Japan. If you are going to be sightseeing in Yokohama, make sure to stop by this shrine to see what the future has in store for you.
Please follow the shrine manners such as rinsing both hands and then your mouth at the purifying trough before entering the shrine grounds, and giving your offering, then bowing twice, clapping twice, praying and then bowing once when finished in front of the main shrine itself. The shrine chamber is an especially sacred place, so do not enter it and refrain from taking photos of the interior as well.
