2. Experience High End Shaved Ice at Gion NITI

Gion NITI

Among the exotic neighborhoods of Gion, Hanamikoji street is filled with many tourists throughout the day. Tucked within a side street off the busy main street of Hanamikoji street is Gion NITI.

In the peaceful shop, you can see the streets of Gion from the window. Reservations cannot be made but if the seats are full, entry tickets are passed out.

At Gion NITI, you can savor a delicious shaved ice using naturally made ice that formed during the cold seasons. Watermelon is a popular seasonal flavor (1200 yen with tax) and various other shaved ice with seasonal syrups are sold throughout the year.

The watermelon flavored shaved ice had a natural sweetness and tasted as if you were eating a real, juicy, mouthwatering watermelon.

Gion NITI

Within the layers of ice are pieces of agar jelly so that you can enjoy the difference in flavor as you indulge in the sweet treat.

There are flavors such as the Matcha Ujikintoki which contains matcha green tea syrup with large chunks of red bean and matcha green tea Bavarian jelly. There is also the Milk Kintoki with Coffee that comes with a condensed milk and coffee addition. Both are 1200 yen (with tax) each.
