Sold from Ishikawa’s Sakakobo Taro are the One-Bite Kintsuba (238 yen and above plus tax), which consists of baked red bean paste wrapped in wheat-flour dough, and Square Monaka (151 yen and up, plus tax), which is red bean paste sandwiched between wafers made from rice cake. They are also available in portion-able sizes and seem like they would be great as travel snacks.

Kintsuba is a wagashi that matches well with not only green tea, but with cocoa as well.

They have created a modernistic display from the shop’s hopes of “wanting young people to also know of the deliciousness of wagashi.” You can experience the world of wagashi up close thanks to array of sweets offered at Ennari.

3. Tanakaya Senbei Sohonke: Cute, Retro Wrapping from Gifu

Tanakaya Senbei

From Gifu comes Tanakaya Senbei Sohonke, boasting 150 years of history, and producing various types of senbei (rice crackers).

When you think of senbei, it tends to have the image of being salty, but the products from Tanakaya Senbei Sohonke have a sweetness to them that is closer to that of a cookie. This shop is also popular with tourists. You will feel an adorable, retro vibe from its wrapping, too.

It seems like you will be able to enjoy limited edition, Ennari exclusive flavors of wagashi, such as products that combine mint and coffee, that you have never tasted before here as well.
