Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens & Ropeway, located on a hill in Kobe, offer a wide range of seasonal flowers and spectacular views of the port city.
The garden is hosting its summer GARDEN FEST 2023 event in August and September. This year's theme is "A summer you will never forget" and features thousands of sunflowers across its spectacular resort.
The garden is home to around 75,000 herbs and flowers, with 200 species blooming each season of the year. The facility provides excellent access to surrounding areas via its ropeway. It includes restaurants, cafes, and terraces meaning you can spend as long as you want in the garden without any hassle.
This summer you can enjoy thousands of sunflowers spreading across two different fields in the herb garden. Read on to learn about the highlights of the summer event.
Garden of Four Seasons - Garden of Joy
Garden of Four Seasons - Garden of Joy is the first sunflower field along the Kobe Nunoobiki Herb Garden trail to the top of the hill.
Sitting at 100 meters above the port town the field blossoms around 1,500 sunflowers from July to early September.
Delightful lemongrass and lemon verbena are planted amongst the sunflowers creating a refreshing scent flowing throughout the garden.
With a mixture of sunflower varieties that bloom at different times, the garden can be enjoyed through the summer months. Sunflower Sunny Kids, Sunflower F1, and Sunrich Banana 50 are all different areas within this beautiful field of joy.
Wind Hill Flower Garden
Wind Hill Flower Garden is the second and highest sunflower field in the resort, overlooking Kobe's cityscape it is easily accessible by taking the ropeway up the hill.
With an area covering approximately 1,150 square meters and around 3,700 flowers, it is a flower paradise sitting in the sky!

The best time to see the sunflowers is early to late August.
Beautiful both during the day and in the evening, the garden is a sight to behold. From ocean blue skies mixed with a carpet of yellow brimming sunflowers to the magical glowing landscape of sunflowers combined with orange sunsets in the evening, the views are splendid!
Small pathways of globe amaranth can be seen between sunflowers, with around 2,500 vivid Audrey Purple Red and bicolor rose globe amaranth delicately decorating the garden. You can enjoy a heavenly mixture of warm summer colors together!
The globe amaranth blooms from late July to late November.
How to Access Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens & Ropeway
The ropeway station for Kobe Nunobiki Herb Gardens is approximately 5 minutes on foot from Shin-Kobe Station on the Shinkansen line and Kobe Municipal Subway.
The resort facility has good access from central Kobe and Kitano Ijinkan. It takes 10 minutes via the ropeway to arrive at the garden. Along the way, you can enjoy fantastic panoramic views of the town's cityscape and surrounding nature.
Sunflowers represent unwavering faith and positivity due to the fact that they always face the sun, following its movement throughout the day until sunset.
