The Magome region of Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture, is located almost in the center of Japan, at the southern end of the Central Southern Alps, and is an area where you can enjoy the rural landscape of rice fields and forests spreading across the sloping terrain. The Nakasendo highway, which opened in the early Edo period, runs through the center of the region, and beyond the local post town of Magome-juku-juku, this old highway enters a rugged 80km section called the Kisoji, which retains the scenery of the Edo period, and continues on to Tokyo.
