The retro-style Sakai Yamanokuchi Shopping Shopping Street is located along the Hankai Tramway, the only remaining streetcar line in Osaka Prefecture, from Shukuin Station to Oshoji Station. A little north from there is a charming townhouse with a signboard that reads "Sakai Forged Blades" and is Sakai Toji, which was founded in 1805.

The "Sakai Sakai Forged Blades" handled by "Sakai Toji" are one of Sakai's representative traditional industries. Its origins date back to the construction of the Emperor Nintoku Tomb.

The construction of large-scale burial mounds required many hoes and spades. Blacksmiths who were gathered from all over the country to make these excavation tools settled in Sakai after completing their duties, establishing a division of labor that is said to be unique to Sakai, and continuing to make hoes and spades.

"In the past, craftsmen would pursue one technique - blacksmithing, sharpening, sharpening. It was common for them to work together to produce one product.
In addition to manufacturing and selling Sakai Forged Blades, Sakai Toji also operates the Sakai Toji Knife History Museum, which tells the history of this traditional industry, and offers knife sharpening experiences.

Knife sharpening may look easy at first glance. "Place the knife against the whetstone, apply pressure when pushing, and do not apply pressure when pulling. On the other side, do not apply pressure when pushing, and apply pressure when pulling," and so on. Apparently, even people who regularly sharpen knives have a hard time with the "sharpening method that maximizes the sharpness of the knife."
