Kudan Institute of Japanese Language & Culture is a Japanese language school located in Kanda-Misakicho, Chiyoda-ku, a 4-minute walk from Suidobashi Station. Currently, students from over 40 countries come to study Japanese at our school. You can study short-term (tourist visa) or long-term (study visa, working holiday visa, or other long-term stay visa).
One of the features of our school is that we offer a course that combines Japanese language classes with learning about Japanese culture.
● Japanese (conversation course) + Manga course (1 month/2 months/3 months)
● Japanese (conversation course) + Tea ceremony course
● Japanese (conversation course) + Sushi course
We will introduce our most popular Japanese (Conversation Course) + Manga course.
Japanese (Conversation Course) + Manga Course
What is the Manga Course?
This is a class where you take our conversation course in the morning (9:10-12:40) and study manga at the manga specialty school "Nihon Mangajuku" in the afternoon. Manga class lessons are given on the first day of the semester, but there are one-month, two-month, and three-month courses, so you can decide the length of the course according to the period you can stay.
1 month course → 5 lessons
2 month course → 10 lessons
3 month course → 16 lessons
This course is taught by a professional manga artist and a bilingual coordinator, and is tailored to your level. This means that anyone can take this course with confidence, from beginners who love reading manga but have never drawn it seriously, to professionals who do design work and want to broaden their horizons.
We have bilingual coordinators, so even students with a beginner's level of Japanese can participate.
Students who complete the three-month course will receive a certificate and a piece of art they have actually drawn. *Students who complete the one-month and two-month courses will not receive a certificate.
★The Manga course is a set course with the Conversation course. Since this is a conversation course at Kudan Institute of Japanese Culture where you study Japanese and Manga, you cannot take the Manga course alone. It is useful to be able to write Japanese and have knowledge of Japanese when drawing Manga. Please enjoy studying both Japanese and Manga while taking this course.
What is Nihon Mangajuku like?
A school that trains professional manga artists. It has a thorough manga curriculum, and all of the courses, from story to background, and from analog to digital, are taught by instructors who are professionals in their fields.
Nihon Mangajuku is located near Akihabara and Ochanomizu stations, which are easily accessible from Kudan Japanese Language Institute.
It has the highest rate of debut manga artists, and famous works and teachers include Shimizu Akane, the creator of "Cells at Work," who is a graduate of the Nippon Mangajuku.
Manga course content
The course covers basic techniques such as how to use G pens, solid colors, white, and screen tones, as well as analog techniques such as how to draw character faces and how to draw motion. There are also courses on how to draw digitally, and at the end, you will create your graduation project.
You will learn the techniques step by step.
The student is practicing how to draw speed lines. On the left is the teacher's example. On the right is my own attempt at drawing the same thing.
This is a very well done drawing!
One of students told me,
"I looked on YouTube but couldn't find this method anywhere! It's so amazing!"
They were very impressed by the opportunity to learn techniques directly from professional manga artists.
In addition, there are bilingual coordinators who can explain things in both Japanese and English, so even foreigners with beginner-level Japanese, who would normally not be able to study at a vocational school, can learn the techniques required to draw manga.
Please check the website for detailed curriculum.
