ZEN NIGHT WALK KAMAKURA: Neuro‑Music and Illuminated Gardens
Experience ZEN NIGHT WALK KAMAKURA, a tranquil autumn night walk at Kenchōji featuring neuro music, soft projections, and illuminated gardens this fall.
This autumn, Kenchō‑ji in Kamakura will glow with a new kind of evening calm. From October 28–December 7, 2025, VIE and Nikkei present ZEN NIGHT WALK KAMAKURA, a quietly immersive program pairing contemporary sound art with the temple’s centuries‑old atmosphere. The walk is a slow, meditative journey through illuminated precincts, where subtle lighting, projection art, and VIE’s neuro music invite visitors to slow down, listen, and breathe in the season.
An autumnal meditation in light and sound

Set against a backdrop of turning leaves and historic timber, the event blends modern technology with traditional space. Neuro music (compositions designed to influence specific brainwave bands and promote relaxation or focused calm) is woven throughout the route. Thoughtful projection mapping and audiovisual installations are integrated into Kenchō‑ji’s architecture so contemporary art and cultural heritage converse gently rather than compete.
Highlights to experience
Sound Corridor — Neuro‑music

In the covered corridors, soft neuro music and discreet light accents create a gentle sonic cloak. The soundscapes (designed to support calm focus) move with visitors, while small installations draw attention to simple details, inviting a slow, mindful pace.
Sanmon (Main Gate) — Path of Pure Breeze

Approaching the Sanmon, wind chimes and calming neuro music mingle with light projections that trace air’s movement across timber and stone, evoking the cool, clear breath of Kamakura’s autumn and offering a restorative pause before entering the precinct.
Karamon Gate — Yugen Garden

After dusk, the Karamon is revealed by delicate patterned illumination that skims carved surfaces and casts shifting shadows, encouraging quiet reflection through a restrained interplay of light, form, and mystery.
Hojo / Ryuo‑den — Neuro‑music Zazen

Inside the historic Hojo, an optional EEG‑assisted sound meditation pairs neuro music with subtle real‑time audio‑visual feedback of brain activity, creating a compassionate, inward‑facing practice that supports relaxed awareness.
Hojo Garden — Dance of the Wind Dragon

The Hojo garden is transformed by a drifting projection of cloud forms among lit maples; bell‑cricket calls and layered neuro music underscore the hush of autumn, making the landscape feel gently animated yet deeply still.
Dharma Hall (Hatto) — Dragon Rain by Rei Wakita

Rei Wakita’s Dragon Rain projects fluid simulations of wind and rain that interact with Junzaku Koizumi’s Cloud Dragon ceiling, creating a calm audiovisual dialogue that honors the hall’s solemn atmosphere.
Simultaneous exhibition — Junzaku Koizumi centennial

The centennial exhibition presents Koizumi’s late masterpieces alongside intimate works in the Tokugetsuro viewing area, allowing visitors to sit, reflect, and enjoy both the paintings and views of the Hojo garden in a quietly contemplative setting.
