Points of Interest Around Hirado Castle

Kameoka Shrine

Inside the areas of Hirado Castle and Kameoka Park is Kameoka Shrine, where Lord Matsuura was deified, which is now considered a registered cultural asset of Japan. Here, every year from October 24th-27th, an autumn festival called Hirado Okunchi is held. Among other things, 24 types of dance dedicated to the shrine, called Daidaikagura with flutes and drums, take place.

Plum Pine Tree-lined Streets

Inside of Kameoka Park is a street lined with conifers called Plum Pines. These are giant, 400-year-old trees with trunks over 3 meters in circumference, designated as Nagasaki Prefecture's Natural Assets.

Since these were planted at the time of the building of Hirado Castle, they are loved dearly by the townspeople of Hirado City as these trees watch over the city.

Saiwai Bridge - (Holland Bridge)

Saiwai Bridge was built as a means to get from Hirado Castle to the downtown part of the city. Since the bridge was made using stone crafting techniques used in Holland (The Netherlands), it is also known as the Holland Bridge. As it has been designated an Important Cultural asset of Japan , it is becoming one of the standard sightseeing spots in the area.

Among other things to do in the area are experiencing the beautiful churches and shrines, as well as taking charming strolls through the city. How about making the trip to this wonderful place?
