The Good Design Award is a program organized by the Japan Institute of Design Promotion and is a famous design award that represents Japan. Regardless of genre, whether it be general goods, furniture, electrical appliances, and even social projects, the award is given to designs that further enrich our livelihood, industry, and society as a whole.

It is an award that designers from all over the world pay attention to every year. It is also not unusual for fans to think, “I want to try using the prizewinning products myself, too!”

The GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO, which opened in KITTE near Tokyo Station, is a store suitable for those fans. It is an official store where products and wares that have received the Good Design Award in the past have been gathered together.

By using an item with a design that you like, your everyday life should become even more enriched than usual. No matter if they are souvenirs or for yourself, why not try searching for your favorite good design?

Why GOOD DESIGN STORE TOKYO Opened

A store employee said that “Up until recently, we only appreciated ‘good designs.’ But, to bring these designs closer to our lives and to make our lives more convenient, we opened this store that offers Good Design Award products.

As for why the store was opened in KITTE, it was because Tokyo Station was thought of as an important location for communicating with the world. This location was chosen so that the store can offer their products to everyone, regardless of whether you are local or a tourist, and whether choosing a product in their own favorite design or to purchase a souvenir for someone special.

Care Taken in Designing the Store

The store’s concept is home. For that reason, the store has been designed with the idea that the entrance is the front garden, the area past the entrance is the living and dining room, and the area furthest inside the store is the playroom and study area. The entire store offers a living space surrounded by good designs.

Pig-Shaped Drop Lid

小豬杯蓋

This drop lid won the award in 2002 and is used during cooking. It is used to cover the pot while ingredients are simmering and is very uniquely designed as steam exits through the pig’s nostrils. You can insert chopsticks through the holes to remove the drop lid, making it both convenient and safe.
