As part of the Ready for Japan! project, MATCHA is extending an invitation to our readers to stay in a Kyoto hotel free of charge.

Currently, many of Japan's accommodation facilities are dealing with reservation cancellations due to the coronavirus. Even accommodations in Kyoto are being affected by this pandemic, and there are markedly fewer visitors walking the streets. The ancient capital still remains an excellent destination, however.

For people looking to travel once the COVID-19 outbreaks subside, Kyoto offers the relaxation and cultural refinement many of us will be seeking. With this thought in mind, we'd like to introduce MATCHA readers to a Kyoto hotel offering free accomodation. Application procedures and other details are listed at the end of this article.

The hotel sits in the heart of Kyoto, making this spot ideal for sightseeing. World Heritage Site, Nijo Castle is just fifteen minutes away on foot.
Also within a ten-minute walk is Nishiki Market, known as "Kyoto's kitchen" due to its numerous enticing food stalls and fresh, local ingredients. Visit this area to enjoy regional culinary specialties and get a glimpse of how residents live.

Or, if you hop on a train or bus, you can visit Gion with its elegant streetscapes, Yasaka Shrine, and Ponto-cho, an area with narrow, stone-paved alleys lined with eating and drinking establishments. All these places are also just ten to twenty minutes away by public transportation.
