The first Ace Hotel opened in Seattle in the United States as a gathering place for artists, and there are currently ten hotels all around the world. Ace Hotel Kyoto is the first Ace Hotel in Asia.

The hotel is directly connected to the Karasuma-Oike Station on the Kyoto Municipal Subway Karasuma and Tozai lines. It is located inside the ShinPuhKan, a commercial facility designed under the supervision of the renowned architect, Kengo Kuma. Hotel guests can step out of their rooms and enjoy shopping on the premises.

The interior design of Ace Hotel Kyoto was planned by Commune Design, a Los Angeles-based company in charge of interior design for several of the Ace Hotels in the United States. Traditional artisan items from Kyoto, as well as teacups and saucers made by ceramic artists from all around Japan, are tastefully placed inside the rooms in a stylish expression of Japanese aesthetics and tradition.

Guests are also greeted by gorgeous artwork in the lobby and communal spaces. Craft items and commissioned pieces by Japanese and American artists are on display, adding an artistic atmosphere to the building.

Exhibitions and events are held regularly at the gallery attached to the lobby.
