Daimaru is a long-standing department store that can be found across Japan. However, the largest location by far is located in Hakata. It consists of two buildings: the main building and East Building El Gala. The area is filled with many famous brand name shops.

This department store is also suited for overseas shoppers. There is a duty-free counter on the 5th floor of El Gala and automatic foreign currency exchange machines to change US dollars, British pounds, Chinese yuan, Korean won, Taiwanese dollars, Hong Kong dollars, Singaporean dollars, or Thai baht for Japanese yen. On the first floor's information counter, there are staff who speak English, Chinese, and Korean.
