The Morning Glory Festival is in Iriya, just near Asakusa and is held every July. It's a great way to get a taste of Japanese summer!
66 Years of Downtown History
The "Morning Glory Festival" is one that is held every year on the 6th, 7th and 8th of July in Tokyo downtown. With 66 years of history and over 400,000 visitors, this an event that truly reminds one of summer.
During the festival, the area of Iriya will be packed with over 200 stalls that sell Morning Glory.
Like its name suggests, the morning glory is a flower that blossoms in the morning and closes when night arrives. To see morning glory in full bloom, we recommend arriving in the morning.
The morning glory flowers captivate viewers with their myriad of colors. Courier services are also available for people who come from faraway places.
The place is absolutely packed with people and the temperature remains high, so please make sure you have sufficient water intake.
The rainy season can be upsetting, but these beautiful morning glories will lighten up your mood after just looking at them.
Eating Stir-Fried Soba and Takoyaki While You Walk
Morning glories peek out from stalls and the place is filled with the cheerful voices of children. Foreign visitors can be seen as well.
A delicious smell wafts from somewhere, enticing you to carry on.
The smell of soy-sauce grilled corns.
A standard festival dish: yakisoba (stir-fried soba).
Takoyaki being cooked one by one. Watching the cooking process is a treat in itself.
Dig into some skewered grilled fish.
Stroll along the stalls while eating yakitori (grilled chicken), perfect for Japanese festivals.
Chocolate Banana for dessert.
These stalls are part of Japan's wonderful traditional culture.
