Yanaka OSAJI Amazake And Organic Cosmetics Shop: Souvenirs For You!
OSAJI, a quiet stop in Yanaka, Tokyo, is a shop that sells organic cosmetics and amazake (sweet sake). Why amazake together with skincare products? This is the outcome that OSAJI has reached after thinking about what is best for the customer’s skin.
Popular Products Made with Care
A Hand Cream & Lip Product Popular with Tourists
The hand cream (to the right in the photo: 1080 yen plus tax) is the most popular item with overseas tourists. It is made with the same ingredients as emulsion and you can expect it to not only moisturize your skin, but to also give a mild whitening effect. This product agrees well with the skin and a little will go a long way.
There is little to no stickiness after applying it, so it is fine to even touch things afterwards. There will be a nice shift in mood by choosing your favorite fragrance and applying it during work or while you’re studying.
To the left in the photo is the lip gel (972 yen plus tax). The staff explained, “This lip gel is sweet and delicious.”
When I licked my lips after applying some, there was a slightly sweet sensation. It doesn’t have the strange feeling that a usual lip cream gives.
It also has the great trait of sufficiently moisturizing your lips just by using the same amount as pictured. It’s the perfect unconventional souvenir.
Great Lather! Shampoo & Conditioner
The non-silicon hair shampoo (2160 yen plus tax) to the left in the photo gives a soft washing sensation and lathers up well. As the shampoo also contains moisturizing ingredients that will protect your scalp, your hands will also feel soft when washing away the shampoo after leaving it in for about one minute.
Those with long hair that apply the conditioner (2160 yen plus tax) to their tips will be left with even softer hair.
If you will be using the products by yourself, then one container can be used for up to two months. There are also many couples and families that have come to purchase these products.
Additionally, OSAJI products are carried as amenities at a hotel in the Nihonbashi area by the name of CITAN. Those who think, “I want to try using it once!”, how about staying at this hotel to test these products out?
For details about CITAN, please read “Is It A Hostel? A Bar? A Lounge? Presenting CITAN In Nihonbashi!”
Toner & Gel That Will Replenish the Moisture in Your Skin
To the left in the photo is the facial toner (2268 yen plus tax). After replenishing the moisture in your skin with facial toner, it can be locked in with the facial gel (2484 yen plus tax) to the right in the photo.
A staff member gave a word of advice, “Apply this to really lock in the facial toner and moisture.”
You can leave your skin sufficiently moisturized when applying the facial gel once more to prevent the moisture from the facial toner from leaving your skin. One pump of product was more than enough as the facial gel spreads well.
There are many repeat users of these products. A staff member happily recounted that there are also customers that will visit the shop again upon using up their bottle after about two months and will repurchase these products while saying, “I’m no longer worried about my dry skin!”
It means that even just using the facial gel was enough for these people to calm their dry skin.
Amazake Is a “Drinkable Drip” That Will Cleanse Your Body?
Among the skincare products that line the inside of the shop is an amazake (sweet sake) menu located near the register. OSAJI offers amazake for takeout with the idea of “wanting to also cleanse the body from the inside.”
In the summertime, there are smoothies, frozen drinks, and gelato made with amazake. In the winter, there is hot amazake. Mr. Ishikawa, the store manager who also has had previous experience at a French restaurant, works on product development every day.
Although amazake is usually made with sake lees, at OSAJI, it does not contain alcohol and is instead made using malted rice, giving it a very smooth taste. A popular regular item is the Italian-made mascarpone and lemon amazake smoothie (450 yen plus tax).
Malted rice amazake is not only good for overall skin health, but is also effective for recovery from exhaustion. If you’re thinking, "I’m a little tired from sightseeing", then it may be a great idea to try stopping by.
In order to enjoy its fragrance, the drink is served without a lid. Of course, you are also able to ask for a lid, but definitely please try enjoying the fragrance as well.
There was a faint lemon scent from this drink. The mascarpone has little acidity and is made with a cheesecake-like flavor. Furthermore, it becomes very elegant all around when the sweetness of the rice is added.
Products will vary depending on the season, so definitely please visit and try finding a product that catches your eye.
The Quiet Atmosphere of Yanaka
Yanaka was chosen as the location of the first shop from the thought of “wanting to open a shop in a place with a quiet atmosphere.” The fact that there is also a temple dedicated to the god of skin in the neighborhood was also a deciding factor.
There are many fans that live in the neighborhood and readily come to hang out at the shop to say, “the product I bought the other day was really good!”
Normally, the staff will provide assistance in Japanese, but they will also assist customers in English to the best of their abilities when receiving questions from customers.
The nearest station is Sendagi Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line. You can also walk to the shop in about ten minutes from the Yanaka Ginza shopping district by walking down the steps of Yuyake Dandan, then turning left at the first corner.
General goods stores and more are also located along the path, so it seems like it would be fun to spend some time here even as you’re walking to OSAJI from the Yanaka Ginza shopping district.
OSAJI is a shop that has a selection of products that are fastidiously made while thinking about the customer’s skin. Definitely please visit and try experiencing these ideas along with the charms of these products.
