LUSH HANDMADE COSMETICS is a cosmetics and body care company from the United Kingdom that has stores all around the world.

While present in Japan for many years, in the last two years, they have opened two Lush stores in Tokyo offering items exclusive to Japan, the Exclusive Bath Bomb Store Lush Harajuku and Lush Shinjuku, the largest LUSH store in Asia.

The mega-store Lush Shinjuku offers many store-limited as well as regular items over three floors. On August 31, 2019, Lush Shinjuku finally revealed their new Lush Spa on the fourth floor. It is based on the main concept of Lush Shinjuku, "How do you want to feel today?".

The Spa at Lush Shinjuku is the second Lush Spa in the world to offer unique 25 to 30-minute treatments, including one Shinjuku-exclusive treatment, in addition to the treatments available at the Lush UK Spas. It will even offer the "Tales of Bath" treatment (the starting date hasn't been announced yet) which lets you take an indulging bath after a deep tissue massage.

Colors and sound play a very important role in the Lush Shinjuku store. This is why there is a projection mapping screen with flowing colors that you can change depending on your mood and shower jelly drums on the third floor, as well as the music corner on the second floor.

The escalator to the fourth floor surrounds you with lights that follow you on the corridor with changing colors as you pass by.

Entering the fourth floor is almost like stepping into a different world. The interior of most Lush Spas worldwide, including Japan's only other Lush Spa in Kyoto, are based on the warm, wooden feel of a typical Lush store. The Shinjuku Spa recreates the "NEO TOKYO" theme introduced by Lush Harajuku in 2018.

There is a large touch screen in the main area surrounded by tables and chairs for those waiting for their treatments. The touch screen provides information about the treatments and their pricing in various languages.

Further into the treatment area you will find a shelf with items you can pick up for purchase.

Areas with skin and hair items to refresh your hair and makeup after the treatment are provided as well.

Various items used during some of the treatments are on display in this area. For example, massage bars, or solid oil bars, are an essential part of the Lush treatments, so they are exhibited here.

The Consultation Room - Enjoy a Warm Welcome

A short consultation before the treatment is part of any Lush treatment. The consultation room is used for the more extensive treatments of the spa. It has a warm wooden interior and is actually designed to resemble its counterparts in the United Kingdom.

During the consultation, you will be served detox water infused with lemon, mint, and orange. A relaxing tea is part of most of the Lush treatments and "The Good Hour Treatment" even lets you indulge in vegan cookies.

The flavor of the tea depends on the treatment. The cookies are made by a bakery from Kanagawa called "Anzu no Shippo". They only use natural, local ingredients.

The consultation will make sure that you receive the perfect treatment tailored to your wishes. It is an important part of the treatment, so take your time.

Time Efficient Chair Treatments at the Spa in Lush Shinjuku

LUSH Spa Shinjuku - Relax With Japan Exclusive 25 Minute Treatments

The Spa in Lush Shinjuku offers three exclusive 25 to 30-minute chair treatments in so-called "Color Pods." Color pods are small cabins separated by curtains with color-changing LED on their ceiling.

The Color Pods are exclusive to Lush Shinjuku and can't be experienced anywhere else. The music is exclusive to Lush Spas in general and changes depending on the treatment. Specially designed headphones that are worn around the neck deliver the music through your whole body.

Lush Shinjuku is the only Lush Spa in the world besides Lush Liverpool offering these chair treatments and the "Tangled Hair Treatment" is even exclusive to Lush Shinjuku.

In a busy place like Tokyo, many people don't have time for the more extensive treatments which can take over one hour. This is why Lush invented these chair treatments. They are also great for people who just wants to try Lush's treatments or is on a budget.

You can enjoy these treatments in your lunch break, between appointments or as a quick refreshment after a long day of shopping. Please note that each of these treatments will also need a short consultation so it is best to give yourself forty-five minutes to an hour if you have a time-sensitive appointment afterwards.

1. The Energizer Spa Treatment

Tired from shopping or sightseeing but still having many activities planned for the day? Then "The Energizer" is the treatment for you!

The Energizer is a 25-minute long treatment that turns your body into an instrument to restore your original body rhythm that is often lost in daily life. Soft-headed drumsticks are used to massage your body in the beat of the music. Every part of your whole body is also softly stretched making you feel energized and refreshed.

2. Tangled Hair Spa Treatment

"Tangled Hair" is exclusive to Lush Shinjuku. It treats you with a relaxing scalp massage to release tension accompanied by light stretching exercises inspired by swimming. The sound of violin and bamboo clarinet allows you to drift into a shallow sleep.

Cold stones and hot towels are used on your face to relax and revive your skin. Mint-scented "Temple Balm" (a kind of solid perfume) will refresh your senses.

The Tangled Hair Spa treatment takes about 25 minutes.

3. Fresh Facial Spa Treatment

The "Fresh Facial" is the longest of the chair treatments, lasting 30 minutes. It also includes the most in-depth consultation.

The facial treatment is based on your wishes. The treatment above was tailored to the writer's wish of feeling refreshed. It is based based on lemon and mint scents and the colors blue and yellow. We have been told that some of the customers who are craving sweet treats even have their facial designed after a sweets platter with chocolate and vanilla scents.

With all the different scents and items used, this might be the most "Lush" treatment amongst all the chair treatments. Hot towels and face massages carry the skincare deep into your skin as well as make you feel pampered and relaxed.

How to Book an Appointment at the Spa in Lush Shinjuku

The easiest way to book an appointment is online (Japanese only). If you are not sure which treatment is suited to you or are nervous because the website is in Japanese you can also visit the Lush Shinjuku store to book an appointment.

English speaking staff is available at all times at Lush Shinjuku. If you don't speak Japanese, you can let them know that you wish a consultation in English. If you book online, feel free to mention it in the notes.

If you buy or receive a Lush Spa gift card in Japan, please use it within two years. After two years the card will be reset to zero and the treatment can't be redeemed anymore.

Exploring an exciting city like Tokyo can get very busy and a relaxing treatment can be a great re-energizer. Lush Shinjuku's thirty-minute treatments are a great option if you don't have the time or budget to invest in a bigger treatment.

If you really want to treat yourself, make sure to look into all the Spa treatments available. They have everything from spot treatments to foot and head massages all the way to full body treatments.

Only Lush products are used during the treatments no matter if short or long. Some of the Lush products are even exclusive to certain treatments and can't be bought at the store. This is one reason why Lush Spa treatments also make for a great gift if you are traveling with a Lush fan.
