Masking tape --- not just another stationery

Kurashiki's aesthetic area still retains traditional buildings.  In the eastern outskirts of that area, Nyochikudo (如竹堂) is located.  In this shop, you can buy masking tapes, paper balloons, Japanese trinkets and so on.

Out of various goods, masking tapes are real eye-catchers.  Inside the shop, you can find varieties of masking tapes (there could be more than 100 varieties of them!) Masking tapes can be used like cellophane tapes to literally tape things together. However, as this shop's masking tapes have various colours and designs, you can use them for decoration as well. Price range per a tape is from 100 yen to 500 yen --- quite reasonable for masking tapes. The shop also offers a free service to make an original paper bag for you by putting various masking tapes on it.

Masking tapes of Kurashiki's unique Machiya pattern

Although there are hundreds of patterns of masking tapes,  highly recommended ones are masking tapes with Machiya pattern, which is unique to Kurashiki. Also, there are many other masking tapes originally designed by the shop --- so it could be fun to make your original souvenirs by making bags or files with various tapes.

Other than masking tapes, there are Japanese original souvenirs such as paper balloons and Japanese trickets in the shop.

When you blow a tiger paper balloon, it looks like this.

Thousands of other recommended souvenirs in aesthetic area!

In Kurashiki's aesthetic area, other than Nyochikudo we introduced to you this time, there are varieties of souvenir shops with different tastes. Exploring those souvenir shops is one of the best parts of sightseeing in Kurashiki. Why don't you find your favorite Okayama souvenir in Kurashiki?
