GINZA SIX - A 6-Starred Facility That Will Widen Your Horizons
GINZA SIX is a stylish shopping facility in Ginza, where you can not only find brand items but also explore the fascinating worlds of Japanese entertainment, culture, cuisine, history, and world-renowned art, all in one place!
The hanging garden on the top of the building is an amazing 4000 m2, and you’ll even find its very own Inari Shrine in its northern area. Moreover, in order to give the ultimate experience of the seasons passing in Japan, it is covered in sakura (cherry) and matsu (pine) trees – the symbols of Japan’s natural beauty during spring and autumn. Finally, if you happen to visit these beautiful gardens on a bright, sunny day, you’ll get to gaze at Tokyo Skytree, Tokyo Tower, and, perhaps, even at the superb Mt. Fuji in the distance.
You’ll find Terminal Ginza, the tourist information center, on the 1st floor of GINZA SIX. You should check it out if you are in the need of some useful information about famous tourist attractions, but there you can also change your money, purchase some duty-free products, entrust your luggage to their care, or do your basic shopping in a convenience store.
Here are Some Shops We Recommend!
The 6th Floor: Ginza Tsutaya Book Store
Come up to the 6th floor and find yourself immersed in the magical land of books – almost the entire floor is reserved for the Tsutaya Book Shop.
Since the building's concept is “living with art”, this book shop offers as many as 60,000 publications on art and similar topics from all over the world. Quite amazing, isn’t it? And, you definitely won’t be able to turn away your eyes off the yagura-themed (*1), 6-meter tall bookshelf! Also, if you’re interested in art galleries and such, you should check the schedule from time to time to see if they’re currently having any events, since they (irregularly) engage in those kinds of activities, too.
If you’re more into Japanese culture and manga, rejoice – because there is a special space reserved for just the thing you’re looking for. Learn more about Japan and its wonderful culture from the comics drawn by the big names of the world of Japanese manga, such as Osamu Tezuka, Fujiko F. Fujio, and many others.
But, both you and we know that you can’t have a Tsutaya without Starbucks! Nonetheless, this Starbucks café is slightly different from any other – besides its regular menu, it serves alcoholic beverages, as well.
At Starbucks Reserve Bar you can taste various high-class coffee bean brands, served in the finest cups you won’t find in other shops – from drinks to tableware, everything is top-notch!
*1 Yagura: a tall, wooden structure (resembling a wooden tower).
The 4th Floor: Nakagawa Masashichi Store
This is a veteran shop with a superb 300 year long history, which can provide with everything you need for your daily life. You’ll see a wide variety of daily (and life) necessities, from masking tape in the stationery section, to some high-class handicraft artwork.
The 5th Floor: Snow Peak Mobile
The well-known architect Kengo Kuma joined hands with Snow Peak to create a shop to inspire your lifestyle. The very core of this special concept is Mr. Kuma’s noted creation, the mobile home Jyubako.
The idea behind this original house is the freedom of moving around and spending each day in a different place – just imagine opening your window only to witness a whole new sight every day! It makes your heart flutter just imagining such an unrestrained lifestyle, doesn’t it?
The Underground 2nd Floor: Tsujiri
What we all have been waiting for has finally happened – Kyoto’s most prominent matcha store, Tsujiri, has opened its first shop in Tokyo! And what’s more, here you can get your hands on some souvenirs, cakes, high-class matcha soft serve ice cream, and many other exclusive items you won’t find in Kyoto’s store too.
Behold Ginza's only Tsujiri soft serve tea-flavored ice cream, containing double the amount of their finest matcha powder. Without a doubt, it is a taste of pure sophisticated delight, and we guarantee you won’t get bored of it! Add some more magical matcha powder on top, and you’ll get a mesmerizing delicacy no matcha-lover should ever miss!
One more heavenly dessert you’ll only get to try at their Ginza shop is the Kyo-koicha terrine, made with selected-only Uji tea powder. The Underground 2nd Floor: 10Factory Ginza Shop
Now, if you wonder why you are miraculously surrounded by all this orange color, don’t get startled at what we’re about to tell you – you’ve found the 10Factory’s mandarin orange kingdom! Everything’s there and waiting for you to relish – juices, dried fruits, jam, and many other aromatic products made from the delicious mandarin oranges of Aichi prefecture. You can even buy some of these precious mandarin-based delicacies for your beloved ones as souvenirs, as there are vacuum-packaged products as well.
The Underground 2nd Floor: Paletas
Paletas is offering something a bit different from what you might have expected – ice candy made from seasonal fruits. And thanks to their secret, original technique, you can savor that irresistible softness of the fruit while it is completely frozen. It might just be the work of magic, but we don’t care – it’s making us drool in advance!
And guess what? They too, have their own Ginza shop’s “can’t-buy-anywhere-else” version of this divine dessert – brace yourself, for here comes the unbeatable combination of matcha green tea, kinako (roasted soybean powder), and mochi (soft rice cake)! It might just take you a few (hundred) steps closer to heaven with just one bite – kinako and matcha flavors will seep through your food-relishing-senses while you nibble on the squishy soft mochi. Yes, the majestic power of this trio will steal your heart (and taste buds) away, for sure!
In Conclusion
Wait no longer to pay a visit to GINZA SIX, and discover not only the fashion and other brand item stores, but well-known shops from various parts of Japan, as well as an unexpected, but the admirable world of artwork created by famous artists!
