The Mangattan Liner I debuted in 2003 to honor the 20th anniversary of Shotaro Ishinomori's works. Following the Tohoku earthquake in 2011 and subsequent restoration efforts, the Liner series expanded with creatively themed trains, totaling four in operation.

These trains feature illustrations from Ishinomori's manga works, running between JR Sendai Station and Ishinomaki Station along the Senseki Tohoku Line. Each Sunday, the Senseki Line Mangattan Liner I and II depart from Aoba Dori at 10:48, reaching Ishinomaki at 12:14.
